Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 8:1-18
Theme: The record of the victories of the Davidic kingdom promises that the Lord is with His Chosen King to establish His holy Kingdom before all the nations of the world.
Structure/points: Why does 2 Samuel 8 take a break from the flow of the narrative to give us this extended report that feels like the minutes of a meeting? Because God made numerous promises to His people and to David about what He would do to bless them through David’s kingship. 2 Samuel 8 shows us that God kept His promises to David and did everything He intended to do. It gives us a picture of the coming of God’s kingdom through David’s kingship. It may seem dry and dusty, but like the rest of the Scriptures, this chapter is useful for us because it teaches us about the fulfillment of the work of the Lord our God.
- the success of David’s kingdom
- the wealth of David’s kingdom
- the rule of David’s kingdom
