Sermon Text: Psalm 52:1-9
Theme: Unlike the wicked man, who fools himself into thinking he is secure in his own evildoing, the righteous man’s hope in the steadfast love of God will never be disappointed.
Structure/points: In 1 Samuel 22, we learn of Doeg the Edomite, whose lies led to the deaths of hundreds of innocents. David wrote Psalm 52 to explore Doeg’s actions and motivations, as well as his ultimate end. In contrast, David lays out his own trust in the Lord as a counterpoint. In doing so, David teaches us not only on Doeg and himself but the hopes of all the righteous and all the wicked.
- The deceptive hope of the wicked
- The enduring hope of the righteous
