The Decline of the King, the Rise of the King

Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 16:14-23

Theme:  As Saul declined as the king of Israel, God provided for the eventual rise of David, the king whom the Lord was with.

Structure/points:  This passage of Scripture is the beginning of the end for Saul’s kingship.  But with the decline of the usurper’s kingship comes the rise of the true king chosen by God to rule over His people.  We see how God superintended the first steps of David’s rise to the kingship by examining…

  1. The Problem:  Saul’s torment
  2. The Suggestion:  Bring David to Court
  3. The Result:  David and Saul were Blessed
