Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 14:24-46
Theme: Despite God’s salvation of Israel through Jonathan, Saul troubled the land by imposing a foolish vow upon the people of God
Structure/points: In our passage, trouble came to Israel, trouble that hurt Israel, trouble that came from within their own camp, trouble that could have been avoided. And there’s no question that Saul had caused that trouble. His pride, his self-righteousness, his stubbornness, caused needless strife among the people of God. Saul’s vow was a product of his spiritual failings, and it defines what happened in the aftermath of the battle of Michmash. We see this in how…
- The vow forbade Israel’s freedom
- The vow provoked Israel to sin
- The vow condemned Israel’s savior
