Sermon Text: Psalm 57:1-11
Theme: Because God will surely save all those who turn to Him for help, the distressed believer should have the exaltation of the Lord always on his lips and in his heart.
Structure/points: Psalm 57 was written in a time of distress for David, the Psalmist. He was forced to hide from Saul in a cave and hope that he’d remain hidden. And yet, despite the danger, his faith in the Lord held fast and guided the composition of this psalm. He knew who the Lord was and what He would do, thus David could write the song we have here. We will follow the Psalm’s own internal structure, using the refrain of vv. 5 and 11 to shape our sermon. Thus, we find two major movements within the Psalm.
- David’s confident lament
- David’s confident praise
