Sermon Text: Matthew 3:1-17
Theme: John’s baptismal ministry called the Jewish people to repent of their sins from the heart because the messianic kingdom of heaven was about to dawn on them through Jesus Christ.
Structure/points: After the Lord’s initial revelation about the births of Jesus and John the Baptist, He became relatively silent. We know nothing of John’s life in between his birth and public ministry, and, the Bible tells us very little of the youth of our Lord Jesus. But when the time came, the Lord once again did a mighty thing. This new work was mightier, in fact, than anything He’d yet done. The season had come for the forerunner to Messiah to prepare the people to receive the Lord Himself and be saved from their sins. As we read of John’s preparatory ministry, we will learn of…
- John’s call to repentance
- John’s warning of judgment
- John’s baptism of Jesus
