Sermon Text: Galatians 3:23-29
Theme: The cessation of the law’s power equips the Church to believe that all who are justified by faith have equally received Christ and share in His inheritance.
Structure/points: Paul has insisted that God’s promise to save people by faith was not invalidated when He gave the law to Moses. The law was never intended to save people but point them to Christ for mercy and redemption. But the people of God had been under the law’s authority that we aren’t anymore. Why aren’t believers in Christ bound to the law as the OT saints were? For Paul, the answer is bound up Christ Himself. Christ’s appearance on earth changed things forever, bringing an end to the law’s authority and inaugurating the union with Him that Paul held out for the Galatians to embrace.
- Before Christ came, God’s people were under the law
- Since Christ has come, God’s people are united to Jesus
