Sermon Text: Galatians 4:1-7
Theme: When the time came for the Church to be redeemed from their bondage to the law, the Father sent His Son to redeem and adopt those He would make His sons and heirs by grace.
Structure/points: If the Old Testament fathers and mothers were saved in the same way as New Testament people are, why then were they under the law of God? What was different that they had to obey the Mosaic law’s many commands and we do not? The answer lies in the same person that the Bible consistently sets before us; Jesus. The coming of Jesus changed everything for the Church in their relation to the law. Since the Galatian churches had been severely neglecting the work of Jesus and its accompanying implications, Paul must restate what he’s been saying in a different way. Here, he focuses in on the sonship that believers have; where it comes from and what it means. In Christ, and only because of Christ, were the Galatians the sons of God, and this gift was theirs in full and in fact, apart from the works of the law.
