Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 12:1-15a
Theme: Though the people of God deserve condemnation for their willful despising of His word, yet He puts away their sin and guilt because He has chosen to graciously forgive them.
Structure/points: For the better part of a year, David lived with the knowledge that he was an adulterer and a murderer without any pangs of conscience. But the Lord had seen David and was very angry with His servant. Though He was silent for a season, the time came for the Lord to confront David’s sin and expose his wickedness. And yet, though 2 Sam. 12 is a passage of judgment, it is simultaneously a passage of forgiveness and undeserved grace. Sin is confronted head-on by the holy God in order that grace may be given.
- God’s exposure of guilt
- God’s fury against sin
- God’s promise of life
