Sermon Text: Galatians 1:6-10

Theme: Whenever a false gospel is introduced within the community of God’s people, the Church must stand upon the exclusive claims of the gospel they received from Christ and reject false teachers as those under God’s judgment.

Structure/points: Most of Paul’s letters contain a section of thanksgiving for the churches he wrote to, praising God for the saving work He was doing in them. Such a thanksgiving section is totally absent in Galatians because the Galatian Christians were in grave danger of cutting themselves off from the Lord.  Paul’s lack of thanksgiving should impress us with how serious the problem was and how immediately and directly he needed to address the Judaizers’ heresy.  We in turn should adopt Paul’s view of things and hold tightly in our hearts what the Galatians had carelessly neglected.
