The Very Heart of the Gospel

Sermon Text: Galatians 2:15-16

Theme: The gospel reveals the grace of God by proclaiming that, whether Jew or Gentile, Christians are justified, only by believing in Christ, who died to take away their sins, not by any works of the law

Structure/points:  Galatians 2:15-16 serves as the thesis of the letter to the Galatians.  If you understand Paul’s teaching here, you’ll understand the entire book.  Not only that, but these verses also serve as the beating heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  The doctrine taught here is absolutely vital to the Church, as vital as blood is to your life.  How can a person obtain a righteous status before God? On what basis are we accepted by the Lord so that we may receive eternal life? Paul’s gospel gives us the answer that we need by teaching Christians the doctrine of justification.

  1. No one is justified by works of the law
  2. All are justified only by faith in Christ Jesus
