The Return of the King

Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 19b-40

Theme: The king appointed by God to rule His people offers grace and mercy to all who will submit themselves to his reign.

Structure/points: After the death of Absalom, David was faced with the problem of retaking the throne of Israel.  How would David return to power?  How would he deal with those who’d betrayed or opposed him?  Would Israel even accept him as their king?  The work of rebuilding a nation that had rejected David and a people who had turned away from their God was difficult.  But instead of bringing a sword down on his enemies, King David offered mercy, forgiveness, restoration, and a chance at peace.  In doing this, he reflected the God who’d shown him grace all his life.
