Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 19:41-20:26
Theme: The rebellion of Sheba exposed the sinful hearts of the people of God, reminding us that the kingdom of the Lord needs a greater man than David to be king if it is to be holy.
Structure/points: After Absalom’s death, David was accepted as the king of Israel once more and was soon back on his way to retake his throne. But even though David was officially “back” and reigning as king, things in Israel did not settle into a new golden age. David’s return to the throne actually revealed something that had always been true, namely, that the people of God were not holy and righteous. They were capable of great evil, and though David was a spiritual giant in his own right, he could not fix Israel by his presence and walk with the Lord.
