Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 7:1-17
Theme: The house of the Lord is built not by the good intentions of His servants but exclusively by the Lord’s own gracious actions to establish an eternal kingdom through the seed of David.
Structure/points: 2 Samuel 7 reveals the grace of God to an extent that had never been known previously. And that grace revolves around the question of a house for the Lord. If the Lord was to dwell among His people and bless them with His holy presence, then who would build the house for Him to live in? The Lord declared that He Himself would do this through David’s offspring. And by doing this, God covenanted to be gracious to David and to everyone else who believes in Him.
- David’s desire to build a house for God
- God’s covenant to make David a house
