Seeking the Counsel of God

Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 23:1-14

Theme:  When David sought the counsel of the Lord God according to the means God had provided, God gave His anointed the guidance and protection he needed to accomplish His will.

Structure/points:  1 Samuel 23 finds David living as a fugitive from Saul.  However, despite David’s peril and his own recent mistakes, the Lord was still with him.  In fact, 1 Samuel 23:1-14 will show us that God had provided him with the means to discern His will.  And David responded to God in faith.  God’s oversight of David and David’s reliance upon God is clearly presented in how events unfolded around the city of Keilah, where we see that…

  1. God gave the Philistines into David’s hand
  2. God did not give David into Saul’s hand
