Rescue from Temptation

Sermon Text: Matthew 6:13

Theme: Because Christians face constant, unrelenting temptations to sin against the Lord their God, the sixth petition asks that the Lord would rescue them from every evil enticement

Structure/points: The Lord teaches us in Scripture that those who love Jesus and are saved by Him will keep His commandments.  But there are many temptations to stray from the path of obedience to our Lord.  Jesus Himself acknowledged the certainty of temptation to sin.  Believers in Christ Jesus are tempted to sin from a variety of sources and in a variety of ways, and they cannot remain faithful and obedient to the Lord on their own.  But we are not supposed to take on temptation alone. The 6th petition of the Lord’s Prayer teaches us how to recognize our need for help and to turn to the Lord for help in overcoming enticement to sin.  From the last words of the Lord’s prayer, we will learn about…

  1. The source of temptation
  2. Restraint from temptation
  3. Deliverance from temptation
