Philistia, the Salvation of David?

Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 27:1-28:2

Theme: When the believer seeks salvation apart from the provision of the Lord, he will find that his self-made refuge will lead him into greater disobedience to God.

Structure/points:  Are the actions of David in 1 Samuel 27:1-28:2 good or evil?  The Bible offers no direct commentary, but it does offer an important clue for interpretation.  The name of the Lord is not mentioned in these verses, nor does David ever seek the counsel of God.  That leads to a series of sinful choices that left David with serious consequences to face.

  1. David’s fearful ponderings
  2. David’s corrupted morals
  3. David’s bitter predicament
