Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 25:1-22
Theme: When David found himself the victim of a fool’s insults, he forgot that the Lord’s anointed must leave it to God to avenge the evil done to him.
Structure/points: Previously in 1 Samuel, we have seen David in danger from largely physical sources. He’s fought on the battlefield and been pursued by Saul and his men. But in 1 Samuel 25, David was in spiritual danger that placed his future kingship at risk. When insulted and belittled, would he show the same restraint he’d shown to Saul? And if not, what would the consequences of his actions be? To help us understand the danger that David faced, we will unpack three points from the first half of 1 Samuel 25.
- The death of the prophet
- The folly of the fool
- The fury of the king-elect
