I Desire Nothing Besides the Lord

Sermon Text: Psalm 73:1-28

Theme:  When the envious believer regains a proper understanding of God, he becomes content to possess God alone.

Structure/points:  As we come to the season of Thanksgiving, we should thank God for all the gifts that He has given to us.  But we should also grapple with our contentment with those gifts, especially God’s gift of Himself to us.  We profess belief in the all-sufficiency of the Lord to us, but what happens if we forget to be truly content with Him?  Psalm shows us Asaph’s journey to contentment with the Lord by describing…

  1. The prosperity of the wicked
  2. The correction of the psalmist
  3. The sufficiency of God
