Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 6:12-23
Theme: The people of God offer their Lord humble, joyful worship because they are grateful for the immense grace that He showed them in the gospel.
Structure/points: Everywhere the Bible speaks of worship, it assumes that worship is about and for God. We worship not because we benefit from it but because the Lord is worthy to be worshipped, praised, sung to, and exalted. King David understood this. When he brought the ark to Jerusalem, he led all Israel in a time of worship and praise for the Lord for this momentous occasion. He was only concerned with the Lord’s worship because the Lord is worthy to be worshiped with a full and glad heart. As we continue in 2 Samuel 6, we will see that single-minded focus on the Lord in the heart of His king, and learn what sort of worship we ought to offer the Lord ourselves.
