Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 12:15b-31
Theme: By continuing to offer grace to His people despite their sins, the Lord shows Himself to be unchangeably merciful and restorative to the repentant sinner at all times.
Structure/points: Previously, when Nathan declared God’s judgment to David, the king responded with meekness and repentance. The Lord graciously forgave his servant and declared that He had put David’s sins away. God didn’t relent in His determination to discipline David, but He did show grace and mercy to David, even in the immediate aftermath of his crimes. By showing this to us in the remainder of 2 Samuel 12, we learn about the unchangingly merciful and gracious character of our God. This grace and mercy are seen in three events in 2 Samuel 12.
- The death of David’s son
- The birth of Solomon
- The fall of the Ammonites
