King of Hebron, King of Israel

Text: 2 Samuel 2:1-11

Theme: Because the Lord has fulfilled His word to establish His anointed as the king of His people, all are called to accept his overture to be members of his kingdom.

Structure/points:  After the death of Saul, the time came for the Lord to fulfill His word and establish David as the king of Israel. His anointed one would sit on the throne of God’s people and rule them in His name.  2 Samuel 2:1-11 shows us how David was accepted by some and rejected by others. But whether they accepted the call or not, the call to acknowledge what God had done and act accordingly went out through all the land.  We see a call for all God’s people to bend the knee to His choice for king through…

  1. David’s anointing
  2. David’s blessing
  3. David’s rival
