Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 28:3-25
Theme: Whoever spends their life refusing to listen to the word of the Lord to repent, believe, and obey Him will eventually find Him silent to their cries for mercy.
Structure/points: 1 Samuel 28:3-25 begins with two stated facts; the Prophet Samuel was died, and King Saul had expelled the mediums and necromancers from the land of Israel. Keeping these things in mind, we find 1 Samuel 28 to be a dark passage with a grim tone. But perhaps this is a mercy from the Lord. Against the darkness of this passage, the light that the Lord shows in Christ Jesus is able to shine the brighter. But we must understand that to oppose and reject that light is to remain in spiritual darkness, and how terrible is that darkness! We see this sad truth explained through our three points.
- Saul’s faithless inquiry
- Saul’s certain condemnation
- Saul’s final meal
