Sermon Text: Luke 1:39-56
Theme: The people of God magnify His saving power and mercy because He has blessed the humble and dethroned the proud by means of the virgin’s offspring.
Structure/points: The story of Christ’s birth is a story of the mercy of God, how He rescued those whom He loves in Jesus despite their lack of merit and standing. Even though the people of the Lord are lowly and unworthy, the Lord has done tremendous things for them by means of the Son of God. When they recognize the width and depth of the Lord’s blessing and kindness and grace, they respond to Him and His work with glorification of God their Savior. We see this in two ways in Luke 1:39-56.
- Elizabeth’s shout of blessing
- Mary’s song of rejoicing
