Sermon Text: 1 Kings 1:32-53
Theme: The Lord has seated His Anointed One upon the throne of His Kingdom, and the public announcement of His kingship elicits either praise or terror among all who hear of His rule.
Structure/points: In 1 Kings 1:32-53, we see the true king, the one chosen by the Lord, come to sit upon the throne of God’s people. Through Solomon, the man of God’s choosing, and not Adonijah the covetous false king, would the promises of an eternal Davidic dynasty be realized. This history of earthly kings and kingdoms reminds us that the Lord our God is the King of Kings. His kingdom extends over all the earth, and He has given His kingdom and the rule of His elect people to the man He has anointed. That is an absolute certainty that has eternal ramifications to this day for the godly and ungodly alike.
- Declaration of Solomon’s kingship (vv. 32-35)
- Celebration of Solomon’s kingship (vv. 36-40)
- Fear of Solomon’s kingship (vv. 41-53)
