Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 18:10-30
Theme: Because the Lord was with His anointed to give him success in all he did, Saul’s repeated attempts to eliminate David inevitably backfired and brought him greater renown.
Structure/points: Not long after David’s slaying of Goliath, Saul began to eye David enviously. What if David tried to take the throne? Saul immediately began trying to eliminate this young rival, but every attempt Saul made to get rid of David failed. In fact, Saul’s efforts always seemed to benefit God’s anointed in some way. Why was that? Because the Lord was with David. This simple fact overrode all of Saul’s wicked plotting, turning what he meant for evil into good for God’s anointed servant. We see this as we explore three of Saul’s schemes…
- A murder attempt
- A demotion in rank
- A bridal price
