Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 13:1-22
Theme: Amnon’s sin against his sister shows the people of God that indulged sin will always harm the lives of innocent victims as well as the sinner’s own soul
Structure/points: In the wider context of 1-2 Samuel, the first twenty-two verses of 2 Samuel 13 are a catalyst for all that follows. If the sword would never depart from David’s house, here is the first stroke of the sword. Yet we must also grapple with these verses on their own merits. We find here a tale of depravity and evil, terror and sorrow. This passage strikes shock and horror in the heart of the reader, by design. But we must be careful not to gawk at 2 Samuel 13 like a train crash. The evil and the sorrow recorded here were very real and deeply felt, and it’s a story that has far too many parallels even in our own day. But this is the word of the Lord, a passage God-breathed and inspired for us to learn from through Jesus. May the Lord give us mercy to grasp these things in His Spirit as we examine…
- The desire for evil
- The fulfillment of evil
- The result of evil
